Day 94

It was another quick day, because we redeemed December’s Pizza Hut Book-It coupons today. Pizza is as motivating as a play date for my girls.

N (age 12):

Math: N warmed up with mental math. Her lesson was on interpreting different types of graphs, and on proportions. She learned how to test if two ratios were equal and to find the missing term of a proportion using cross multiplication.

Reading: N  is still working on finishing up Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I read N and C a chapter of The Giver last night.

Spelling: N continued working on words with the prefixes “sub-,” “mid-“, “bi-,” and “tri-.”

Bible: N and C reviewed their memory verses (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Exodus 20:1-17, Psalm 1:1-6, and Psalm 23:1-5) and the books of the Bible. They began learning Isaiah 53:1-2. They learned about Elijah successfully challenging the prophets of Baal. We talked about the boldness of Elijah’s faith in his challenge and his trash-talking of Baal’s prophets.

Science: N and C learned about asteroids. We talked about the asteroid belt, the Trojan asteroids, and the Apollo asteroid.

Music: C continued practicing her scales. She continued her new lesson.

C (age 10):

Math: C warmed up with mental math. Today, she learned the four steps for pencil-and-paper calculations of division problems with two-digit quotients and remainder. She learned how to check her answers using multiplication and addition.

Reading: C read a chapter of On the Banks of Plum Creek. I continued reading N and C The Giver.

Spelling: C continued to work on her words using “y” as a vowel.

Bible: Combined class with N.

Science: Combined class with N.

Music: C continued working on her chord transitions , playing individual notes, and reading music. She continued her drumming lessons.

S (age 7):

Math: S counted to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s using her hundred number chart. She counted backwards from 30. She recited the days of the week and the months of the year. S learned how to write the number 23. S worked on number recognition again today by copying her numbers through 23. She practiced counting money at Pizza Hut by getting change for the vending machines and using the correct amount of change in each machine.

Reading: I read S and H a chapter of Amelia Bedelia Means Business.

Writing: S copied words and the days of the week using a custom worksheet from HandwritingPractice.Net.

Homeschool Daily

I was an education major in college, but I hated teaching. And then I started homeschooling. Good days, bad days, I love them all! It's a great adventure with my favorite people in the whole world.
