It was another off-schedule day. This time, we went rollerskating with other homeschoolers for a “phys ed day” of sorts. From there, it was Halloween costume shopping. After that, this introverted mother had to come home and be alone for a couple hours. Fortunately, I was able to get math done with the older two before we left.
N (age 11):
Math: N did her mental math and a worksheet. Her lesson was on finding common denominators, and on adding and subtracting problems with different denominators. She learned how to use prime factors to find the common denominators of two fractions with large denominators, but she doesn’t like that method. I must say that I’m not thrilled with doing it either. I can’t imagine she’ll use it much in real life, but I explained to her that it’s good to know how to do it just in case she ever needs to apply that knowledge. She completed a lesson review.
C (age 10):
Math: C warmed up with mental math and a worksheet. Her lesson was on using pictures to compare fractions. This was right up her right-brained alley! She did really well and completed a lesson review.
