We got a late start yesterday and never really managed to get on track. We were all out of sorts and struggling to find that routine again after the camping and the holiday. We got through it, but “loud mom” showed up and school took up most of the day.
N (age 11):
Math: N got caught up on her independent review work. She’s now back on schedule.
Spelling: N did a workbook introduction to her new words, using the prefixes fore-, post-, over-, co-, com-, and con-.
Reading: N read a chapter of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I began reading them The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles last night. Time for some fluff after the serious book we just finished.
Bible: N and C reviewed all their memory verses (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Exodus 20:1-17, Psalm 1:1-4) and recited the books of the Bible. They learned about Joshua taking the place of Moses as the leader of Israel.
Science: N, C, S, and H learned about our solar system and were introduced to the planets. They began memorizing the planets in our solar system.
Geography: N and C filled out their maps of the Middle East and Southeast Asia. They decided to learn the countries of Europe now that they’ve completed Asia, so we began by learning about Norway on Time for Kids.
Music: N practiced her scales (G major and C major) and her new song.
C (age 10):
Math: C completed the third part of a three-part investigation on decimal numbers. This part was on using manipulatives to compare tenths and hundredths. No mental math, worksheets, or lesson review on investigation days.
Spelling: C did a workbook introduction to her new words using the consonant blends sp, tr, pl, and nd.
Writing: C continued to learn how to identify the sequential actions of a story plot and how to take notes.
Reading: C read a chapter of Little House on the Prairie.
Bible: Combined class with N.
Science: Combined class with N, S, and H.
Geography: Combined class with N.
Music: C practiced A, B, C, E, and all her chord transitions. She played while reading music. She’s learning to play songs that coming strumming with playing individual notes.
S (age 7):
Math: S warmed up by counting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s, and by counting backward from 30 to 1. S was so excited to begin her new math workbooks. She learned about counting to five with one-to-one correspondence, practiced number recognition of numbers 1-5, and completed a lesson review worksheet.
Grammar: S continued working on memorizing “Work.” She began to learn about proper nouns naming places.
Reading: S and I sang the alphabet song. I showed S a card with the letter “i” and an itchy fox on it. We practiced the short /i/ sound. Then, I showed S a picture of inchworms skiing. S picked out all the pictures that started with the short /i/ sound. Then, I gave her four cards, three of which had pictures that started with the short /i/ sound. She glued the three /i/ cards to a paper with the letter “i” and an itchy fox on it. S completed a color by letter picture of a lizard, coloring in all the spaces with “I” or “i” in them. I read S and H a chapter of Ramona and Her Father.
H (age 4):
Math: H warmed up by counting to 20 and singing the “Days of the Week” song. Her lesson was on naming a shape piece by attribute (color, shape, and size) by playing a matching game.
Reading: H continued to review the vowels for letter recognition and short vowel sounds. I read S and H a chapter of Ramona and Her Father.
Writing: H practiced writing her name and the vowels, all in capital letters, using a custom worksheet I made at HandwritingPractice.Net.
